Description
The course project for a Health Information Management course, was a challenge, because this was one of the first courses we designed specifically with Lessons in mind. Since we were moving away from integrating assignment instructions into course content, all of the Instructional Designers working on the HIM program brainstormed approaches for projects with many deliverables. The challenge was to make it easy to complete individual assignments, while providing enough context about the larger goal.
Process
The solution we decided on was to create a new Lessons page to house all of the general project information as well as information about individual assignments. The benefits were that the students could see all of the material in one place, and development was significantly simplified. Taking assignment instructions out of assignments and assuring that navigation to the new page was coherent were challenges that seemed worth the tradeoff.
