With the pandemic, there came a scramble to continue to teach our students. As we have continued to teach during this trying time, other methods of instruction have had to be used to teach.
The university has broken instructional formats down into four categories:
- Online classes: instruction is delivered online.
- Hybrid classes: instruction is delivered primarily online, with some face-to-face instruction.
- “Flexible” face-to-face classes: instruction is delivered primarily in-person, with some online delivery.
- Traditional face-to-face classes: instruction is delivered in-person.
Within the hybrid and flexible categories, there are ways to teach courses while keeping yourself and your students safe while not sacrificing course content and instructor presence.
Instructional Methods in a COVID World explains different methods to lead classes. Listed are the seat time, setup, engagement, pros and cons of each method and issues that you should address before you teach the course. This way you will be able to make an educated decision on how to lead your class this fall and beyond.
