Process

For long-term projects, one idea is to put the assignment instructions in Assignments and link to individual assignments in a Looking Ahead section on the Lessons page. The text in Looking Ahead tells students that they should start preparing for an upcoming assignment and, because the assignment is linked, students can easily reference it.

Tool Implementation

When Assignments (instead of a Lessons page) is used for long-term project instructions, students have one place to go (i.e., Assignments) to get a list of all their assignment instructions and due dates. This is especially useful if the course has interim deliverables associated with the long-term project. Students can easily reference those assignment instructions any time throughout the semester by going to Assignments. In addition, a description of a long-term project with lengthy instructions and rubrics tat can benefit from the formatting feature in Word can be attached as a document in Assignments.
